José Corbacho returns to the island with humor and a desire to reunite with friends and fans. It will be at Teatro Ibiza with the show ‘First of all it’s very calm’ starting from 22:00 tonight.

What is it offering tonight at Teatro Ibiza?

A monologue to collaborate with this theatre, to add noise and visibility to the theatre, and to support the theatrical and cultural presentation of the island. It’s fun for people to have a good time. It’s been a long time since we’ve performed on the island and this is a great opportunity to reconnect with friends and fans.

What other projects are you currently working on?

I’m touring all of Spain with this monologue. I’m returning to Barcelona to perform in the third season of Teatre Borràs, followed by a larger project that we will premiere at the Barcelona Festival and at the Palau de la Música on February 14 at the Tívoli Theatre. It’s called ‘Love, love, love’, I tell love stories with Ramón Gene, accompanied by a symphony orchestra and a rock band, to classical and contemporary music. There are 50 musicians on stage and it is a great show that we have toured in Spain as well.

Would you rather go alone or with lots of company?

When I don’t want to go alone like today, I take the band and the orchestra and 50 people come together.

Recording a new program for TVE?

A program for Spanish Television to bridge the gap left by Anne Igartiburu’s movie ‘Corazón, Corazón’. A new report area where I show the curiosities and routes of well-known artists from this country. The first was Manolo Escobar, with a route through Barcelona, through Monserrat Caballé and Badalona. It doesn’t have a title yet. I also collaborated on the ‘MasterChef’ Christmas special.

Has it become more versatile or does the current situation force actors to be more flexible?

I always go ‘there and here’, bowling and luckily working. We actors, of course, have to adapt to the times and the demands of the people.

Is there a different mood after the pandemic than before?

Humor is like life, it is closely interconnected, it is just as important to have humor in life as it is to live it. Fortunately, humor changes and evolves, just like life and people. We who devote ourselves to comedy are like the other children of the neighbourhood, and we thrive on what happens.

It was difficult to work on Pandemic for comedians…

It was very complicated because we couldn’t see people smiling behind the mask, which is essential for a comedian. We could only listen. In the post-pandemic era, the public values humor, comedy and theatrical performance more, which pleases me because the work of comedians is valued and sometimes we need it.

Was there a hunger for humor?

Life is part comedy but with so much tragedy, there is a great desire and predisposition to have a good time and forget what happened.

This theatre is a refuge actors generally?

Theater is many things at once. For me it was the beginning of everything and starting over at every opportunity, I started acting with the famous company La Cubana, with whom I was with for many years, then I jumped into the world of live television with an audience and very theatrical. That’s why I always find myself in the theater. I like being accompanied on stage, but being alone like I am now gives me a freedom that I don’t have in other media where other times and addictions exist, such as television, cinema or radio. I feel more comfortable on stage than elsewhere in life.

But a monologue requires more responsibility.

Since you are alone on stage with the microphone, you have more responsibility and if people are not laughing or not, you are solely responsible. I could see it easier for a single person to work at low capacity and in small towns when they couldn’t shoot and do other stuff with other actors. This experience has given me so much satisfaction and work. As long as they offer something that I like and that excites me, I will.

Is it necessary to diversify the role of the humorist?

Fortunately, our work allows us to diversify many things. I am very pleased with my production collaboration as a stand-up on Carles Sans’ new show. It is to be successful.

With so many platforms and programs, how do you choose a good product? humor?

The good thing about having too many offers is that there is more to look for, and the downside is that the bigger offer didn’t necessarily mean higher quality. Bigger offer is just having more stuff, which forces you to search more. Previously we had no control over the series we wanted to see and now we have to assume we won’t have the time of a lifetime to see everything they have to offer us. This happens with everything because there is too much information.

How much is a round of applause worth right now?

It has a lot of value, I don’t know the real cost, but I like to think that applause and laughter are too expensive right now and you need to work hard at it. If a joke and a joke do not work, you should do something else, it is not worth saying that others do not understand. There are people on the stage, it’s hard for me to laugh when I see their faces.

after you are star Prime time, bowling too little for you?

I love bowling because it means traveling, healing and meeting people again, as it will be tonight.
