Anita Pointer, co-founder of The Pointer Sisters, has died at the age of 74. His manager, Roger Neal, told the broadcast Hollywood Reporterthat the cause of the tragedy was an oncological disease.
“She fought cancer heroically,” said Roger Neal. “He was surrounded by his family at the time of his death.”
The artist’s sister, Ruth, brothers Aaron and Fritz, and granddaughter Roxy McCain honored the artist’s memory on social media.
“While we are deeply saddened by the loss of Anita, we now find solace that she is with her daughter Jada and sisters June and Bonnie,” they said in a statement. “It’s what kept us together for so long.”
In 1969, Pointer formed The Pointer Sisters with younger sisters Bonnie, June and Ruth. Their debut album included the Grammy-winning hit Fairytale. In 1976, the band’s song “Neutron Dance” was featured on the soundtrack of the television series Beverly Hills Cop. Breakout was certified triple platinum and won two American Music Awards. The group received three Grammys and was inducted into the Soul Train Hall of Fame.
