It looks like Hollywood actor Benedict Cumberbatch’s family will have to pay compensation to Barbados for the “sins” of their relatives who owned a slave farm on the island in the 18th and 19th centuries. It has been reported Daily Mail.

The plantation housed 250 slaves until slavery was abolished 100 years later.

When the plantation was forced to close, the Cumberbatch family was awarded £6,000 in compensation.

Now, the player’s family, who own their own farm in Barbados, may have to pay as compensation.

The Barbados government is currently struggling to get the ancestors of slave families to pay compensation.

In 2015, Cumberbatch revealed that his mother, actress Wanda Ventham, urged him not to use his real surname to avoid a situation with his slave-owning ancestors.

The Oscar-nominated actor first mentioned his family lineage when he starred in the 2006 movie Amazing Grace.

It was previously claimed Airbnb deleted 30 advertisements with 19th century houses for slaves.
