At sunset on April 15, Jews celebrate their main holiday – Passover. The word “Passover” (Easter) has two meanings: “passing” and “passing”.
The holiday is associated with the passage of the Israelites, led by Moses, through the Red Sea. According to another version, the pharaoh stubbornly did not let the people of Israel go, and then one night the Lord struck the firstborn in each family of the Egyptians. Before this “Egyptian execution”, Jewish families were ordered to slaughter a lamb and anoint their doorposts with blood. When the angel of death saw the bloody door, he passed by the houses of the Jews. However, after the death of the Egyptian firstborn, the pharaoh allowed the Jews to leave Egypt.
On Passover, a dinner (“order”) is held on the first evening of the holiday (in diaspora countries – the first two evenings). Before that, Jews visit the synagogue. After that, the whole family together with the guests gather around the table. Blessings set by the rules are read, prayers are read, and psalms are sung.
Jews should invite everyone who needs this meal, even those who cannot celebrate the holiday with their families.
