UOC applied to police for “cursing” video of “95th Quarter”

The canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) has filed a complaint with the police about a video the Kvartal 95 studio described as “blasphemous”. It has been reported DEA News Referring to Archbishop Alexander Bakov, head of the legal service of the UOC Metropolitan of Kyiv.

The issue was released on the Pure News YouTube channel on December 7, 2022. The hosts call it “a memorial service for Russian agents in Ukraine, called the Moscow Patriarchate Ukrainian Orthodox Church.”

According to Bakov, this transfer overflowed the patience of church representatives. “Today we filed a complaint with the police to start an investigation. We hope that they will take criminal action against this fact,” said the abbot, adding that the transfer is within the scope of the article of inciting inter-religious hatred of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

He pointed out that attacks on the clergy and secularists of the canonical Church had been heard before in this publication.

The UOC also wrote an open letter to Studio 1+1 TV and radio company and Kvartal 95 studio and one of the studio leaders, Boris Shefir, demanding an apology. “Our Christian conscience tells us not to remain silent when we see public contempt and blasphemy (blasphemy) against God and faith. <…> This plot is thoroughly blasphemous,” specifically appealed. The UOC noted that in the absence of an apology, they would consider the release as a declaration of “spiritual war” against the Ukrainian Orthodox Church herd.

Studio “Kvartal 95” was founded in 2005 by Vladimir Zelensky. It produces movies, TV series and humor programs.

Former President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree on the introduction of new sanctions against representatives of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC).
