UA creates a Chair for responsible development of Metaverse

this University of Alicante reached with Aim a Agreement for the creation of the Meta Chair For the development of the Metaverse. The purpose of this chair is promoting independent research on legal and ethical issues from the metaverse. Among other issues, it is aimed to analyze whether the current legal framework guarantees the protection of: civil rights in the metadata and if current regulation allows legal security necessary for new digital companies to expand their operations into the new medium. Chair, chaired by a tenured professor of Private International Law and co-director of the GIP-Law (UA) research group, Aurelio Lopez – Tarruella Martinezspawns with a start time can be extended for two years.

Among the activities it plans to carry out, research articles on current issues in the field (protecting the digital identity of citizens and protecting their personal data in the metaverse, managing and controlling content and experiences, adapting the current regulatory framework to digital platforms, etc.), online seminars on different controversial topicsand one annual conference with experts of world-renowned prestige.

To carry out these activities, López-Tarruella, a multidisciplinary expert group different institutions at the European level Susana Navas (Professor of Civil Law, Autonomous University of Barcelona), Teresa Rodriguez de las Heras (Title Professor of Commercial Law, Carlos III University), Idoia Salazar (Director of the Odyssey), Louis Ignatius Vincent (PONS IP) or Manual Desantes (Professor of Private International Law, UA) will chair the group.

The Chairman is part of the Meta investment initiative through the Research Fund and XR Programs (XR Programs and Research Fund), 2.5 million dollars to support independent academic research across Europe examine risks and opportunities from the metaverse.
