The versatile actor and presenter, who gained a reputation as an impersonator, returns to the Teatre Coliseum in Barcelona, where he made his debut with a revamped show, lots of new material and some classics. Those who know him only from ‘El Hormiguero’ and ‘Tu cara me suena’ will discover another Latre.

He was already on the ‘One man show’ at the Coliseum last year and left people out due to covid restrictions. Is it the same or did you add new material?

A lot has changed in the show. The good thing about this ‘show’ is that it is based on the present. This show started after the pandemic, while we were still wearing masks and there were restrictions in the theatre. And because it’s different today, so is the show.

Count, say.

-We will see Pedro Sánchez bragging about his achievements in Europe and imitating Chanel with ‘SloM0’, we will see Ada Colau and his proposals and the candidates for the Barcelona elections, Pere Aragonès and the budget issue that is the theme of the World Cup. . Messi who misses Barça and Sergio Ramos who misses Madrid, imitating C. Tangana with the ‘You left me missing’ comment or Florentino singing Bizarrap and Quevedo. And a tribute to Serrat who bids farewell to the stage.

There is also a tribute to the humor classics.

You can’t miss classics like Gila and Pepe Rubianes, which I imagine photographed the current reality of Barcelona with its irony on issues like safety on Las Ramblas, the disappearance of the Club Capitol, where it performed so much.

Apart from the ‘one-man show’, he makes two radio shows a week and appears on TV in ‘El hormiguero’ and ‘Tu cara me suena’. Do you have free hours?

Very little, especially at this time, because I also do more things that people don’t know about. But I am happy: I do what I love and make people have a good time.

What is the secret to achieving everything?

You have to be very monk in these seasons. Now I have medical supervision, I eat a balanced diet. I need to lose some of the weight I’ve gained recently and do sports three or four times a week. And of course try to sleep 7-8 hours every day.

Is the Latre of the theater very different from what we see on TV?

Everyone who has not seen me alive is surprised. These characters are not waiting for the songs to be shown. While imitations are basic, there is so much more. They will go to a multidisciplinary artist because I sing, dance, interpret… I do a little bit of everything. I turn into a very positive, funny, white and family drama. Anyone can connect with him and the 100+ voices or characters that popped up over the course of an hour and a half.

And people connect with it.

This ‘show’ is crazy. We have 150 thousand spectators in 17 provinces.

You are alone on stage but how many people are behind you?

There are 10 of us and we have a script team behind us that has been with me for many years.

“In Spain we tend to label it like this: it’s an imitator and it dies as an imitator. In addition, many other disciplines fascinate me”

It’s the same with their program, of course.

We have great teams. Our production company consists of people who have known each other for a long time. A family where we all work very well. a miracle

He doesn’t look like one of those comedians who have radically changed his focus.

It is true, some Companions are very serious. I’m not witty. Humor is part of my life, my spine. But I love variety. In Spain we tend to label it like this: it is an imitator and he dies as an imitator. In addition, many other disciplines on stage attract me.

He starred in the Spanish version of ‘Golfus de Roma’, which is currently held in Catalan Condal.

It was a super challenge to interpret that. I gave 140 performances, 10 of which were at the Teatro de Mérida. That was great. Being in that wonderful company directed by Dani Anglès. I will always be grateful to him. It was very difficult but very beautiful.

Will you do a musical again?

Of course, I would love to do one more and another way. Now that I know what that means, I would do it with ‘cover’.

“If all goes well we’ll go to Miami, New York, Mexico, Peru… The idea is that even though nothing has happened yet”

What else is on your to-do list?

Ah! There are many difficulties. But if I’m 43. I’ve been young. I’ve had the opportunity to do a show on CBS in the US and perform in the US once, but I still need to take my ‘show’ to Latin America and the US. I’m preparing a tour there for next year.

God, he’ll have to look for new characters for the show.

This will be a much more musical show made of a ‘one-man show’. Actually, we’re already working on it. If all goes well, we’ll go to Miami, New York, Mexico, Peru… The idea is, although nothing has happened yet. I work with two teams of screenwriters: a team for shows writing screenplays based on current events, company meetings and company presentations; and then ‘Your face looks familiar to me’, we have another team dedicated to radio and other activities I do.

Doesn’t it appeal to you to make humorous serials?

No. I didn’t have the chance to do ‘El mundo de Chema’ a year ago, which was a huge failure. This was my first production and I was absolutely blown away. The opportunity wasn’t given again, but I’m not afraid to try again. The problem is that in Spain they label you too much, and so there are not many opportunities for me, neither in TV series, nor in cinema, nor in editing.

“There are great classics you can see today and you keep laughing like Gila, Rubianes or Tip y Coll. Others are old”

Is the humor industry in Spain better, the same or worse than when it started?

It’s different because humor evolves over time. Too much is based on the present. There are great classics like Gila, Pepe Rubianes or Tip y Coll that you can see today and keep laughing. Others are outdated, they were funny for a while, but not anymore. We cannot judge the humor of another era with today’s eyes. There is much more self-censorship in humor today. We are much more ‘kind’, ‘fit’, everything is much more ‘happy flower’. We always say the same thing, but you should be more careful about what you say and how you say it. I had no problems as my humor was so white and familiar, but I’ve had colleagues who had to slow down a bit. What he said years ago cannot be said anymore.

And there are more women than before.

my god! There have always been great female comedians, from Lina Morgan to Mari Sampere to La Maña to Amparo Moreno… La Cubana has also had several great comedians. Fortunately, female humor is being featured more and more and there are some very nice people. Great, how it should be and last!
