Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s willingness to pay for Russian gas in rubles will lead to his country’s isolation. This was stated by Robert Habek, head of the German Ministry of Economy, during a briefing in Berlin. DEA Novosti.
The Minister referred to an earlier decision in the G7 format that payment for gas from Russia should be made in the currencies agreed upon in previously signed contracts, namely euros and dollars.
On March 31, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on gas trade with unfriendly countries, forcing them to open accounts in Russian banks and pay for energy in rubles. At the same time, the Russian leader stated that Moscow “will not participate in charity work” and will consider it a violation of the contract if it refuses to pay rubles.
