Italian Minister of Environmental Modernization and Transformation, Roberto Cingolani, said that the European Commission will present a proposal in September for a general cap on gas prices. He expressed this in an interview with the newspaper La Repubblica. TASS.

According to Chingolani, 15 EU countries supported the introduction of gas price restrictions.

“The European Commission can consider this later, but in any case in September,” the minister said.

Cingolani said that German Economy and Climate Minister Robert Habeck supports the measure.

At the same time, he said the German government wanted to first examine the possible risks arising from a ceiling on gas prices in any of the member states of the union.

According to him, it makes no sense to impose price restrictions on Russian gas alone.

He also described it as fair for Europe, the world’s largest buyer, to help set the price of gas to protect businesses and citizens.

He added that the work to obtain a qualified majority for a general ceiling price will continue in the coming days.

Formerly The Telegraph columnist Tom Rees WroteHe said a warning from Russian President Vladimir Putin forced the EU to abandon its attempt to set a cap on gas prices.
