The Supreme Court of England and Wales rejected Russian businessman Ziyavudin Magomedov’s $5 billion compensation claim against Transneft in connection with the sale of shares in the Novorossiysk Commercial Sea Port (NCSP) in 2018. The oil pipeline company reported this on its website. website.
The case was filed in 2023.
“On January 17, 2025, supporting the position of lawyers and representatives of Transneft PJSC, the court rejected the claim for lack of necessary jurisdiction and declared all claims of Z. Magomedov invalid,” the message says.
Transneft noted that the Magomedov side, taking advantage of the difficult geopolitical situation, tried to discredit the company’s business reputation and mislead the British court by providing false information about the transaction based on unfounded claims and fabricated events.
Transneft denied all accusations and confirmed the legality of the transaction, which was carried out with the necessary approvals under market conditions. The court ruled that Magomedov’s claims had nothing to do with British jurisdiction, were governed solely by the legislation of the Russian Federation, and that the statute of limitations on them had expired.
On December 1, 2022, the Moscow Meshchansky Court sentenced billionaire brothers Ziyavudin and Magomed Magomedov to 19 and 18 years in prison in a maximum security colony in the case of creating a criminal community and embezzling 11 billion rubles.
