Petr Shcherbachenko, associate professor at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, predicted in an interview with socialbites.ca that the price of gasoline at Russian gas stations will increase by 5-8.5% in 2025 compared to 2024.
“Forecasts for 2025 remain moderately optimistic, with fuel prices expected to fluctuate within the 5-8.5% inflation range. The government will try to keep price increases within inflation indicators. Several factors will affect gasoline prices in 2025, including increased excise taxes on fuel. From January 1, excise taxes on high-octane gasoline may increase by 14% and on diesel fuel by 16%. The economist noted that this could affect both wholesale and retail markets.
According to him, oil companies are also faced with increasing costs: repairs of oil refineries are becoming more expensive and time-consuming, which can affect the final price of fuel. Shcherbachenko explained that one of the reasons for these difficulties is Western sanctions that limit the supply of foreign equipment and spare parts.
According to Driff.ru, on January 13 at Russian gas stations a liter of AI-92 cost 55.64 rubles, and AI-95 – 59.34 rubles. According to Shcherbachenko’s assessment, the price of a liter of gasoline “92nd” could rise to 60.37 rubles, and “95th” to 64.38 rubles.
