For the majority of Russian employers surveyed (64%), it is not age that is important, but the applicant’s experience and competencies. Only 36% prefer young professionals. This follows from the results of a survey submitted to socialbites.ca by the Center for Future Professions and the TenChat business social network.
37% of respondents pay attention to whether the applicant has a higher education. At the same time, specialists with secondary vocational education are in demand among 30% of employers. 21% of respondents look primarily at a future employee’s experience rather than their degree.
40% of respondents cited high learning ability as the determining factor in candidate selection. For 20% of voters, knowledge of a foreign language is of fundamental importance. 16% of participants welcome initiative in business life, and 14% attach importance to experience in similar projects. 11% of employers value all of the following characteristics in a potential employee.
According to 36% of respondents, the ideal employee should be flexible and able to easily adapt to any situation. 17% of respondents noted their mastery of modern technologies and programs, 14% noted leadership skills, 13% the ability to work in a team, and 11% of respondents voted for determination and creativity.
“Does a candidate need to have social skills?” 49% of employers stated that they are no less important than professional skills.
More than half of the respondents (57%) evaluate positively the specialist’s “zigzag” career and believe that this shows his good observation. However, 42% of respondents have a negative attitude towards a sudden change in activity.
Almost 40% of employers are okay with the candidate managing multiple projects simultaneously if it does not affect the quality of the work. A third of respondents (33%) find this experience positive and believe it demonstrates good networking and a high demand for an expert. 27% of respondents expressed a negative opinion, believing that combining different responsibilities can distract an employee from core duties.
The survey was conducted in January 2025. More than 500 companies participated.
