Russians are entitled to five types of tax deductions from the government. These are benefits in the form of “real” money payable to anyone who pays personal income tax (NDFL) at a rate of 13-15%. Anastasia Morgunova, co-founder of the accounting outsourcing company “My Business”, told socialbites.ca.
According to him, only adults with children and preferential categories of Russians can receive standard deductions. Among them are disabled people of the first and second groups, Chernobyl survivors, warriors and veterans. This type of deduction is provided by employers: it is taken into account when calculating wages. Morgunova noted that a Russian with a salary of 150 thousand rubles and two minor children can receive a tax deduction in the amount of 4.2 thousand rubles.
Property deduction is made when purchasing a house or a share and the homeowner builds it himself. Morgunova explained that you can get a property rebate at any time of the year. The expert explained that if you bought or had a house built in 2021, 2022 or 2023, you can apply for a discount before the end of this year. Those who purchase a house in 2025, 2022, 2023 and 2024 will be able to apply for a discount. The size of the property deduction is 2 million rubles for the cost of real estate and 3 million rubles for mortgage interest.
Social deductions can be taken from those who do charity work, pay for treatment and education expenses, pay for the education of their relatives and children, treat their children, spouses and parents, and exercise in gyms. The total amount of social deductions is limited to 150 thousand rubles; Only expensive treatments are indefinitely reimbursable.
Investment deduction is limited to 400 thousand rubles for the whole year. It is provided to Russians who invest in individual investment accounts.
The professional deduction only applies to entrepreneurs, notaries and lawyers engaged in private practice. Morgunova reminded that professional income must already be declared with deductions (by April 30, 2024) and taxes on them must be paid. As a general rule, professional tax deductions are provided in the amount of expenses actually incurred and documented. However, it was concluded that in exceptional cases, individual entrepreneurs can receive a deduction of 20% of the total income they receive, instead of taking into account actual expenses.
