The share of Russians who want to receive their salaries in digital rubles fell in two years from 35 percent in 2022 to 25 percent in 2024. However, compared to 2023, the share increased by 5 points. This is shown by a survey conducted by hh.ru at the request of socialbites.ca.
More than half (55%) of Russians surveyed do not want their salaries to be paid in digital rubles; 18% are ready to pay such payments for their entire salary. The other 6% is also readily available, but not more than half of the monthly income.
By 2023, 20 percent of Russians will agree to receive their salaries in digital rubles. In 2022, 35% of respondents were ready to receive their salaries via card in digital rubles, a new form of money that combines the properties of cash and non-cash. Of these, 29% of citizens agree to receive payments in digital rubles from the employer to the card in full, and 6% partially. In 2021 hh.ru conducted a similar survey. At that time, 11% of Russians were ready to receive their salaries partially or entirely in digital rubles. 41 percent of those surveyed opposed it. 48% could not answer.
Men are more positive about the digital ruble: 22% are ready to pay the full salary (among women this is 12%), 8% are ready, but not ready to pay more than half the salary (among women – 5%).
Age also affects the attitude towards digital payments: a third of surveyed Russians aged 18-24 are ready to receive a salary in digital rubles, a quarter of those aged 25-34 and a fifth in older age groups (45 years and older).
Among professions, one in three IT specialists and production workers have a positive view of salaries in digital rubles, while sales managers (two-thirds) have the greatest dissatisfaction.
At the same time, the vast majority of respondents (83%) are ready to participate in the pilot project of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation to test the digital ruble on real transactions and customers. The largest share of those ready is among Russians aged 35-44 (91%), Moscow residents (87%) and IT professionals (95%).
The survey was conducted among 1,991 Russians in September. In September, the Central Bank sent an initiative to the Ministry of Finance that systemically important credit institutions will be required to offer their customers the opportunity to conduct transactions in digital rubles by July 1, 2025: open and replenish digital ruble accounts, make transfers, and also accept digital rubles in their infrastructure It does.
