Iran wants to reach 10 million tons of wheat import from Russia per year

Tehran aims to increase its wheat import volume from Russia to 10 million tons per year. About author RIA Novosti referred to the statement of Iran’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mehdi Safari, for Economic Diplomacy.

According to him, previously the leaders of Iran and Russia had agreed that the amount of grain Tehran would receive from Moscow would be “too large”. “I think Iran can import up to 10 million tons of wheat from Russia,” said Iran’s deputy foreign minister.

According to him, the Iranian side will continue to supply Russia with pistachios, fruits, vegetables and other food products in exchange for grain imports.

Arkady Zlochevsky, head of the Russian Grain Union, said that at the end of 2021, Iran surpassed Egypt and Turkey in Russian grain purchases. As of the end of November 2021, Tehran has purchased 5.66 million tons of grain products, including wheat and corn, from Moscow.

Russian President Vladimir Putin in May declarationA record grain harvest is expected in the country this year. According to him, the preliminary “grain harvest can reach 130 million tons, of which 87 million tons are wheat.”
