Vacationers have become more active in renting apartments instead of hotels 06:56

Russians’ demand for daily rental apartments and flats in the summer of 2024 increased by 70 percent compared to the summer of 2023. This is stated in a study conducted by the Bronevik.com platform and the RealtyCalendar service (available from socialbites.ca).

The largest number of apartments and flats were rented in the most popular summer destinations of domestic tourism – Moscow (18% of all bookings in Russia), St. Petersburg (15%) and Sochi (7%). But the average bill for accommodation turned out to be higher in Zelenogradsk (8.4 thousand rubles per night) and Gelendzhik (6.3 thousand rubles), as well as in the capital of the Far East – Vladivostok (5.9 thousand rubles). In the summer, you can swim in the warm Japanese sea and try the famous local cuisine.

The average bill for booking apartments and flats for travel in the summer of 2024 increased by 17% annually, reaching 3.5 thousand rubles per night. The average cost of living in hotels and other accommodation facilities increased by 24%, reaching 5.5 thousand rubles.

The highest growth rates in summer apartment rentals were recorded in locations close to leading cities in terms of tourist flow. So, in Moscow’s satellite city of Lyubertsy, apartment bookings increased by two and a half times, in Krasnogorsk and Balashikha near Moscow they doubled. Anapa, which, together with Sochi, receives a share of the tourist flow to the Black Sea coast, follows.

Apartment bookings made for business trips in the summer months were analyzed separately. The demand for such accommodations by business travelers doubled (+101%), while bookings for other tourist accommodations for business trips increased by 28%.

“It is interesting that the duration of apartment bookings for business trips is twice as long as for private trips – two days instead of four. We attribute this to the development of the trend towards bleisure tourism, combining business trips with short vacations. Business travelers tend to visit interesting places for work, while taking weekends off to get to know the region’s attractions better. “This summer, the share of such business trips has already exceeded one third,” said Marina Goncharenko, general director of Bronevik.com.

The top cities in terms of the number of apartment bookings for business tourists are still the country’s major business and industrial centres: Moscow (8% of all bookings in Russia), St. Petersburg (6%) and Yekaterinburg (5%). However, the biggest growth in bookings this summer was seen in popular tourist destinations: Krasnodar (+260%), Moscow (+220%) and Kaliningrad (+180%).

The average bill for orders for business trips in the summer months was 3.6 thousand rubles per night (+11% YoY). The most expensive accommodation in apartments is for business travelers in remote places – Vladivostok (6.5 thousand rubles per night), Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk (5.3 thousand rubles), Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky (5.2 thousand rubles) and Norilsk (5.1 thousand rubles). Also in the resorts of Sochi (5.6 thousand rubles) and Kaliningrad (5 thousand rubles), where the demand from vacationers in the summer months is high.

The research was conducted in September.
