Russian retirees are increasingly being hired, Svyatoslav Semerenko, a career specialist at the Professions of the Future center, told socialbites.ca.
According to him, previously employers were not always ready to consider older applicants, but now this trend is decreasing. Semerenko explained that retirees have a number of unique competencies and specific specializations, they are motivated and ready to work. Such candidates increasingly prefer to learn a new profession and start their careers from scratch.
“One of the most demanded sectors is industry. In particular, lathe operators, milling operators, grinders, mechanics and welders are needed. In Moscow, they now earn an average of 150 thousand to 200 thousand rubles (depending on the category and number of shifts). For example, one of our applicants decided to become a student at the age of 64. He worked in the logistics sector for the last 13 years, but had to quit his job. He was offered a job as a machine operator. He did his internship at an enterprise near his home,” the expert said.
According to him, the salary for this position ranges from 150 thousand to 210 thousand rubles after 13 weeks of training. Semerenko added that the retiree is now successfully working in a new direction and even increased his income.
He predicts that sometimes older candidates may have difficulty finding a job, but with the right approach it can be done. According to Semerenko, it is important for a retiree to understand what skills and experience he has to find a job and protect his rights. This can be professional experience or a hobby that can be turned into a source of income, the expert explained.
Semerenko added that it is important to write a resume correctly: it should be relevant and highlight all skills and achievements. Also indicate that the applicant is ready to learn and adapt. Semerenko advised retirees to contact specialists from the employment services of their region before looking for a job, where various courses, trainings are held and programs are implemented for the successful employment of elderly job seekers.
The federal cost of living for retirees will reach 13,290 rubles per month in 2024.
