According to the April-June results, the number of companies that went bankrupt in the European Union increased by 3.1 percent compared to the first quarter. This is proven by the data Eurostat.
The largest increase in the number of companies going bankrupt was recorded in the construction sector. The number of bankruptcies in this region increased by 3.8% in three months. In the EU, the number of companies going bankrupt increased in the financial sector (+2.6%), trade (+2.4%) and industry (+1.6%) in the same period.
At the same time, the number of bankruptcies in some sectors decreased on the contrary. Thus, in the second quarter, the number of companies that went bankrupt in the field of information and communications decreased by 4.8 percent, in the transport sector by 1.6 percent, in the hotel and catering sector by 1.1 percent, in the education and communications sector by 1.1 percent, and in social activities – by 1%.
The number of new business registrations in the EU decreased by 2.1% in the second quarter compared to January-March.
