Indexing of pensions for Russians is very important because this money contributes to economic development and ultimately replenishes the budget, Russian Senator Olga Epifanova, a member of the Central Council of the “Fair Russia – For Truth” party, told socialbites.ca.
“The main priority of the Russian budget is the full implementation of social obligations to citizens. And despite the sanctions and objective difficulties, this will always remain unchanged. Pension provision is an important part of social obligations. One of the main sources of income of the Pension and Social Insurance Fund of the Russian Federation are transfers from the federal budget. And this dependence is quite high,” the senator emphasized.
He recalled that in 2024 insurance pensions for non-working pensioners will be increased by 7.5 percent, and a total of more than 10 trillion rubles will be allocated for pension payments. Additional budget expenditures for pension indexation in 2025 will amount to 96 billion rubles, in 2026 – 177 billion and in 2027 – 260 billion. In total, in three years – 533 billion rubles.
According to Epifanova, last year 2.4 trillion rubles were spent on the development of the pension system in Russia, and this year this amount increased to 3.7 trillion. The senator explained this dynamics by the increasing costs of payments related to indexation and the provision of pensions to the growing number of citizens discharged from military service.
