BRICS discuss Iran’s attempt to unify payment systems

BRICS countries are discussing Iran’s attempt to connect with a group of national payment systems. In an interview on this issue TASS said Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko.

The diplomat commented on Tehran’s proposal to connect the payment systems of the BRICS countries, following the example of the integration of Mir and Shetab. According to him, various options are currently being considered, including by the Iranians, to connect the financial markets of the participants of the interstate union, to transfer settlements to national currencies and to introduce new mechanisms for mutual agreements.

The Deputy Head of the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that the creation of an independent payment and settlement infrastructure resistant to sanctions pressure is the most important element in strengthening the financial sovereignty of BRICS.
