“After everything we have been through, it is surprising to see the share of Russian gas in the European market increasing,” said Tom Marzek-Manser, head of gas market analysis at ICIS.
The United States overtook Russia as Europe’s largest gas supplier in September 2022. Since 2023, the US has supplied 20% of all Europe’s gas imports. In May, pipeline gas supplies from the Russian Federation, as well as maritime transportation of liquefied natural gas (LNG), exceeded that of the United States. Russian supplies accounted for 15% of all supplies in Europe. Liquefied natural gas from the US accounted for 14% of all Europe’s gas imports last month.
