Russians are increasingly using rental electric scooters as a complement to public transportation. This is proven by data research ROMIR.
An online survey based on ROMIR showed that one in every two people living in major cities uses a shared service (electric scooter rental). Additionally, participants used the scooter most during morning and evening rush hours during traffic congestion.
There was also an increase in the total number of trips made on rental electric scooters. As ROMIR explains, 74% of kicksharing users rented a scooter at least once a week during the 2023 season.
Kicksharing services also commented on the growth trend. Leonid Yasinovsky, head of the Yandex Go Scooter service, said that in May, Muscovites began to make 250 thousand trips a day on Yandex scooters. This result is almost 3 times higher than a year ago.
“We travel more than 550 thousand kilometers on our scooters every day; That’s like going from Moscow to Vladivostok 85 times. For us, this is another proof that scooters have become a full-fledged means of transportation for hundreds of thousands of residents. “And of course, such indicators are the best recognition of our work,” he said.
At the same time, Yasinovsky explained that scooters are rented mostly on weekdays (around 8 in the morning and 6 in the evening) when you need to go to work or school and back.
“More than 85 percent of metropolitan residents use scooters not only for entertainment but also as a means of transportation. “Most of the time they become an addition to other means of transport (metro, bus, MCC),” he added.
Yuri Nikolaev, the publisher of the Trushering project, believes that the kicksharing market will continue to grow.
“Russia kicksharing has huge growth potential – according to our forecasts, by 2025 the market will grow 2.9 times and the average number of trips per season per user will increase by 56% to 10.1, compared to 6.5 trips in 2022. Total trips “Due to the increase in the number of travellers, the average check, average length and travel time are decreasing. This shows an increase in the share of transport trips (85%) and a decrease in the share of leisure trips (15%),” he said.
According to ROMIR research, the majority of citizens (74%) support the appearance of identification numbers on rental scooters and agree that speed limit zones are needed for electric scooters (69%).
It was noted that during the research, 1,600 residents of Russian cities with a population of over one million, aged 18-50, who had their own personal transportation or used a rental car were interviewed.
