The Bank of Russia’s key interest rate, currently at 16 percent, will be reduced in the second half of the year. This was stated by the Governor of the Central Bank Elvira Nabiullina at a meeting with representatives of the “New People” party in parliament. RIA News.

“Elvira Nabiullina said at a closed meeting with the New People group that the interest rate could be reduced in the second half of the year,” the party’s press service said.

Most recently, on March 22, the regulator decided to keep the key rate in Russia at 16%. The last date the rate was increased was December 18, 2023.

Before this, debtors were strongly reduced demand for consumer loans and mortgages.

NBKI Marketing Director Alexey Volkov attributed this dynamic, among other things, to the measures of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation aimed at cooling the market – the increase in the key interest rate in the second half of the year and subsequent market interest rates.
