Despite the sharp decline in pipeline gas exports to the European Union in the last two years, Russia has increased its liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies to the EU by 38% by the end of 2023. Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak stated this in an interview with the magazine. “Expert”.
According to Novak, in 2023 Russian companies managed to send more than 15 million tons of LNG to the European Union.
“At the same time, pipeline gas exports to Europe have fallen 5 times in the last two years,” said the Deputy Prime Minister.
This dynamic has led to a significant decrease in the share of Russia’s energy resources in EU imports. If in 2021 Russia accounted for 45% of all gas imported into the European Union, in 2023 this figure did not exceed 15%.
“European countries continue to reduce their purchases of other types of fuel from the Russian Federation. Thus, at the end of the year, the share of Russian oil in EU imports was only 4%, and the share of oil products was 9%,” Novak emphasized.
