Dortiol Terminal, one of Turkey’s medium-sized oil terminals in the Mediterranean, will no longer accept Russian oil cargo after last year’s record imports. It is stated that this decision is due to the increasing sanctions pressure of the USA. Reuters.
Global Terminal Services (GTS), a terminal operator in Turkey’s southeastern Hatay province, said it had informed customers that it would not accept any Russian products.
“GTS has decided to cut all possible ties with Russian oil and accordingly, at the end of February 2024, it informed its customers that it will not accept products of Russian origin or cargo sent through Russian ports, even if they do not violate laws, regulations or sanctions. The company stated that this is an additional measure to existing sanctions rules.
According to him, all previous operations, including the price ceiling imposed by the G7 on Russian oil, were fully compatible with existing sanctions. GTS added that the new approach would be an additional measure “to eliminate the effects of activities beyond the company’s control despite efforts to comply with all applicable sanctions.”
The agency writes that US threats to impose sanctions on financial companies doing business with Russia have already cooled Turkish-Russian trade and disrupted some payments for both imported oil and Turkish exports.
According to Kpler, Dortiol terminal received 11.74 million barrels of Russian oil and fuel in 2023, becoming Turkey’s 7th largest import terminal. Imports from Russia increased approximately 7 times compared to 2021.
