The vast majority of Russian companies (86%) believe that work breaks have a positive impact on staff productivity. This is evidenced by a study conducted by Rabota.ru and SberPodbor; socialbites.ca has a copy.
The survey, in which more than 400 business representatives from various regions of the country participated, revealed that there are different opinions on the number and duration of breaks. The idea of giving employees three short breaks in addition to the lunch break received the most support; 25% of respondents agree with this position. Another 22% think two additional breaks are sufficient, and 10% think they are limited to one break in addition to lunch.
Interestingly, almost a third (28%) of respondents embrace a flexible approach that allows employees to take breaks as needed to maintain optimal productivity.
A significant majority (72%) of surveyed companies agree that breaks play an important role in reducing employee stress, fatigue and burnout. Additionally, 64% of respondents believe it is necessary to periodically switch from work tasks to other activities to maintain high productivity. More than half of the survey participants (55%) stated that breaks help improve concentration.
Many employers also recognize the additional benefits of breaks. Therefore, 39% of participants believe that employees can produce new ideas and creative solutions during short breaks. 33% of respondents also believe that breaks allow staff to communicate on personal matters, which can have a positive impact on work process.
An important aspect is that offices have specially equipped rest areas. The most common option was the kitchen; 60% of companies stated this. One-third (33%) of respondents have lounges with upholstered furniture, and 27% have private rooms for employees to relax. Some companies offer more unconventional solutions, such as libraries (6%) or entire lounges in business centers (6%).
