A third (30%) of Russian employers surveyed use the phrase “we will call you back” after the interview when refusing to hire an applicant. 38% of survey respondents stated that “We will call you back” actually means a promise to call you back. This follows from a survey on the Rabota.ru service, the results of which are available on socialbites.ca.
22% of business representatives said that after this statement the candidate was added to the personnel reserve for future contacts. 8% of survey respondents associate this with the manager’s approval of the applicant’s candidacy. A small proportion of respondents (2%) believe that candidates are told “we will call you back” when the test task is sent.
Interestingly, medium (50%) and small businesses (45%) more often include an actual promise to call you back in the phrase “we will call you back.” While large enterprises (30%) state that they add candidates to their personnel reserve after such an approval, micro enterprises (37%) hide their rejection of recruitment behind the phrase “we will call you back.”
You should not be upset when you hear the words “We will call you back”. It may take time for the employer to make a decision or conduct additional discussions with other potential employees. Secondly, this statement can also mean that the recruiter wants to have a more detailed interview with the applicant. “It is worth remembering that the recruitment process can take time, especially if the company has complex selection procedures,” said Alexander Veterkov, Deputy General Director of Rabota.ru.
The expert concluded that there is therefore no need to panic if you do not receive a call from the employer immediately after the interview.
The survey was conducted by the service in February 2024. More than 400 participants from across Russia, HR professionals, HR directors, company representatives, managers and recruiters attended the meeting.
