The largest supplier of wine from Abkhazia to the Russian Federation suspends its operations due to the new excise tax 05:02

Wine and Juices of Abkhazia LLC Sukhumi plant has suspended its work due to the new excise tax on wine materials. This was reported by Interfaxrefers to the business’s chief winemaker, Valery Ayüdzba.

According to him, the Abkhazian Council of Ministers decided to impose a 30% excise duty on wine materials imported into the country. Ayüdzba stated that this will have a negative impact on wine production, as the plant’s production costs will increase significantly.

He said that distributors warned the company management that the increase in wine prices would negatively affect product sales in Russia.

“In this context, we have suspended our activities,” the winemaker said.

According to him, this decision is temporary.

“We are discussing with the government and hope that in the near future the issue will be resolved and the Cabinet will cancel its decision,” Ayüdzba said.

LLC “Abkhazian Wines and Juices” produces about 28 million bottles of wine annually. The company is the largest Abkhaz exporter on the Russian market. The plant supplies 17 types of wine and cognac to the Russian Federation.
