Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Péter Szijjártó said that the construction of the Paks-2 nuclear power plant within the scope of the Russian project is going as planned. This was reported by TASS.
Szijjártó reminded that the actual construction of two new nuclear power units started in August. An anti-seepage curtain has been installed to protect the foundation pit from groundwater, and work is ongoing to strengthen the soil on the site for the fifth and sixth blocks. According to the current plan, the first concrete will be poured at the beginning of 2025, perhaps at the end of this year.
The Minister emphasized that pouring the first concrete in the construction of a nuclear power plant is always a turning point. That’s when investments move to an even more important stage.
According to Szijjártó, the Hungarian National Atomic Energy Agency has already granted all the necessary permits for current and future studies. In addition, efforts to prepare new permit applications are constantly ongoing.
