Fraudsters began to steal Russians’ Telegram accounts in the name of the messenger’s administration and support service. socialbites.ca was informed about this by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Central Federal District of the Bank of Russia.
Users receive messages from accounts “Telegram administration”, “Customer Service”, “Update”, “Security” and so on.
The messages often mention “a major system security update to protect user data.” Users are asked to click on phishing links to confirm the security check. After clicking on the phishing links, the person is asked to follow the instructions. If you do this, the user will permanently lose their account or channel.
The links lead to pages whose names are slightly different from the official website of the Telegram messenger. For example, hxxps://telegramn[.]ru/MTgzNzU= or hxxps://telegramn[.]ru/MTg0MTI=). Sites currently involved in phishing attacks include: https://telegraim.ru, https://telegrain.ru, https://telegrain.online, https://telegramn.ru, https://telegrami.ru, https ://telegrami.online, https://tefegram.ru, https://tefegram.online.
The press service explained that old phishing schemes are still valid. For example, users in Telegram channels, chats and personal messages receive requests to vote on a website for participants in children’s and other online contests. If a person follows the link and starts “voting,” they will be asked for data that will allow them to take control of the account.
“For greater protection of your account in Telegram messenger, we strongly recommend that you set up two-factor authentication in the messenger settings. This is a password that no one but you can connect to your account from any other device. Just go to the “Privacy” menu in your account settings and select the “Cloud Password” section, said Dmitry Ibragimov, Deputy Head of the Security Department of the Main Directorate of the Central Federal District of the Bank of Russia.
Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Russia German Zubarev said in an interview with the Izvestia newspaper that a new mechanism for the repayment of funds stolen by fraudsters from bank customers will be launched in Russia from July 25.
Russians before said It’s about phone scammers changing their tactics.
