Billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev has lost a civil lawsuit accusing auction house Sotheby’s of helping raise the prices of works of art he purchased. As reported CNBCThe jury ruled in favor of Sotheby’s on all points raised by Rybolovlev in the civil suit.
The case concerned purchases worth more than one hundred million dollars that Rybolovlev made through art buyer Yves Bouvier.
In 2018, Rybolovlev filed a lawsuit against Sotheby’s, accusing it of art price fraud. The case concerned the businessman’s lawsuit with Swiss art dealer Yves Bouvier, who helped Rybolovlev buy 38 works by famous artists.
The lawsuit alleged that the auction house knew the real prices of some works and was involved in almost a third of all sales transactions.
