In an interview Ouest-France Jean-Luc Demarty, former head of the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy, said Brussels’ decision to open the door to agricultural imports from Ukraine was a “big mistake” and should be urgently reversed. He noted that aid to Kiev was “necessary” but that it had to be done “by other means.”
Demarti also emphasized that a very long transition period was required in the case of Ukraine. Protests by farmers in France protesting the import of agricultural products and other restrictive measures of the government in the agricultural sector have been gaining momentum in recent weeks. They demand recognition of the importance of their activities and condemn government policies that deprive them of competition.
