The number of Russian TV channels may decrease in 2023

Gazprom-Media CEO Alexander Zharov said that the number of TV channels in Russia may be reduced in the second half of 2023 due to problems in advertising revenues. He reported that TASS Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

As Zharov said, the shutdown threatens, first of all, small air ducts with low profitability.

“I don’t expect any revolutions in 2022, but the landscape may change as channels decrease on the horizon of the second half of 2023,” he added.

Former head of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin knowledgeable on the drafting of the law on the prohibition of advertising signs in foreign languages. The document is still awaiting a response from the government of the Russian Federation. It is expected to be addressed in the spring term.

According to the author of the bill, chairman of the Duma Committee on Culture Elena Yampolskaya, about 80% of the signs in Moscow contain foreign words, and in the center of the Russian capital there are 30-50% more English signs. or with Latin characters rather than Russian. He believes that this is “disrespect for the Russian language and the homeland.”
