Approximately 7 million housing loans have been granted in Russia since 2020, Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin said in a statement on Construction Day as part of the Russian fair and forum. His words guide the way Interfax.

Deputy Prime Minister announced that 2.4 million citizens received privileged mortgages. In four years, the amount of debt in housing loans increased to 18 trillion rubles.

In 2023, Russians took out about 2 million mortgage loans totaling 7.8 trillion rubles. This is one and a half times more than the previous year.

With data Analytical agency Frank RG reported that the volume of mortgage loans in December increased by 7% compared to November and reached 793.7 billion rubles. Before this, this figure had been decreasing for two months. On December 15, the Central Bank of the Russian Federation increased the key rate by 100 basis points for the fifth consecutive time, to 15% annually. In September, the minimum down payment for all government-backed programs increased to 20%, and in December it increased to 30% for “Preferential Mortgage” only.
