One of the British’s favorite dishes is under threat due to Moscow’s plan to terminate the agreement allowing British ships to fish in Russian Arctic waters, according to the publication.

According to the Daily Mail, British companies are catching large quantities of haddock and cod in Russian territorial waters, the meat of which is used in fish and chips. Thus, last year more than 566 thousand tons of cod were caught in the Barents Sea.

The document states that Russia’s decision was Moscow’s reaction to London’s sanctions. According to journalists, Russian President Vladimir Putin “declared a fish war on England.”

In 2022, Britain ended most-favored-nation trade with Russia and imposed an additional 35 percent tariff on some Russian goods, prompting the Russian government to react. An additional tax is imposed on the import into the country of iron, steel, fertilizer, wood, white fish, as well as a number of other categories of products from the Russian Federation.
