Moscow and Astana agreed to increase the transit of Russian oil to China via Kazakhstan to 10 million tons per year. This is stated in the document signed by the governments of the two countries.

According to the protocol, changes are being made to the seventh article of the 2013 oil transit agreement. Previously, the volume was determined as 7 million tons of Russian oil that Kazakhstan could transfer to China. Now this figure has been increased to 10 million tons.

Deliveries will be carried out through existing and newly created oil pipelines, including the Tuymazy – Omsk – Novosibirsk-2 route and the Atasu – Alashankou direction.

In addition, Kazakhstan had the opportunity to send up to 1 million tons of its own oil and gas condensate annually to the Pavlodar Petrochemical Plant (PCP) in transit via Russia. Deliveries will be carried out along the route “Atirau – Samara – Tuymazy – Omsk – Novosibirsk-2 – Priirtyshsk – Pavlodar Petrochemical Plant”.

At the end of 2022, the Russian government approved the extension of the agreement with Kazakhstan on the transit of Russian oil through its territory in the amount of up to 10 million tons per year until 2034. The previous agreement was valid until 2024.
