IAEA confirms “cold shutdown” mode at Zaporozhye NPP reactor 04:14

Experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) gained access to the reactor hall of power unit No. 6 of the Zaporozhye NPP and confirmed that the reactor was in “cold shutdown” mode. writes about this RIA News regarding the agency.

On Monday, a team of experts inspected the reactor’s main components, safety system rooms and emergency diesel generators.

Experts were previously not allowed into the reactor hall, but after they were granted access the IAEA team confirmed that the reactor was in a “cold shutdown” state. Experts also examined the turbine chamber of the power unit and other safety systems.

On January 11, the Russian Ministry of Defense carried out Safe rotation of the IAEA in the Zaporozhye NPP.

Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant is located on the left bank of the Dnieper, near the city of Energodar. The station is the largest of a nuclear power plant in Europe in terms of number of units and installed capacity – it has six power units with a capacity of gigawatts. In October 2022, the nuclear power plant became the property of Russia. IAEA experts have been working at the Zaporozhye NPP since 1 September 2022, following the first visit to the site by the agency’s Director General Rafael Grossi.
