A court in Germany has ruled to temporarily halt the construction of the gas pipeline from Lubmin to the LNG terminal on the island of Rügen. This is reported with reference to the German environmental organization Deutsche Umwelthilfe. TASS.
“The Federal Administrative Court has ordered the operator Gascade to suspend construction work on the LNG pipeline on the island of Rügen,” the publication says.
Environmental activists opposed the construction of the pipeline due to underwater work with high noise levels and the risk of clouding of water in areas where this is prohibited from January to May due to herring spawning. The Gascade operator had previously obtained a license to bypass these requirements.
At the same time, the environmental organization as a whole does not see the feasibility of building a gas pipeline.
“The Rügen LNG terminal will not contribute to security of supply and the environmental burden of the project is constantly increasing. “We call on the federal government (…) to cancel this unnecessary project,” said DUH board member Sascha Müller-Krenner.
The German community of Lubmin hosts the landing point of the Nord Stream gas pipeline and has its own new LNG terminal, which partly uses its structure.
On January 9, it was reported to be on a German gas pipeline under construction near the city of Brunsbüttel. I drilled eight holes. The project was met with opposition from environmental activists who had previously tried to block construction by demanding that plans to develop hydrocarbon energy be abandoned.
