According to the Spanish energy company Enagas, in December 2023 it became known that the Russian Federation ranks second after Algeria in the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Spain. This was reported by TASS.

The publication notes that Russia sharply increased supply by sending a total of 72,690 gigawatt-hours of gas equivalent to Spanish buyers. It is emphasized that in terms of this indicator, the Russian Federation ranks second after Algeria and the USA.

In December, the Russian side sent LNG equivalent to 5,481 gigawatt hours to Spain. The company emphasized that Russia accounts for more than one fifth of the gas imported by Spain.

Before this, it was known that the volume of liquefied natural gas (LNG) production in Russia would increase in 2023. made 32.33 million tonnes – 2% less than a year ago.

The decline was partially offset by the launch of Port LNG, a new mid-sized LNG project in the Baltic. Overall, Russia’s LNG exports reached the highest level of the year – 3.2 million tonnes – in December.

Previously European Commission announced about plans to phase out Russian gas by the end of the decade.
