Finland remains a transit country for Russian nuclear fuel. This was reported by TASS referring to the Finnish nuclear regulator.
As Risto Isaksson, representative of the press service of the Finnish Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority, told the agency, transit transportation of nuclear fuel in the Russian Federation began in the autumn of 2022. He noted that there are several deliveries in 2023, with the last one in December.
Isaksson emphasized that nuclear fuel is not subject to EU sanctions. According to him, the transit will continue until sanctions are imposed on Russian nuclear fuel.
Finnish energy company Fortum in December announced Tender for the supply of nuclear fuel to nuclear power plants with Soviet-style Loviisa reactors. The message stated that Russia will supply fuel to the facility from 2027 to 2030.
