Glass plate production in Russia fell by 30%. This is reported by RBC Referring to the press service of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
We are talking directly about glass sheets used in construction. The loading of glass production in Russia in May 2022 reached around 70% in 2021 – almost 100%, due to increased demand.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the volume of production decreased due to the direct dependence on the load. Compared to May, glass plate production decreased by 20%.
Maxim Skirtin, director of major glassmaker Salavatsteklo, told RBC that the company has begun reducing its sheet glass production due to the drop in demand. According to him, sales in April 2022 decreased by 25% compared to the same period of 2021 and halved by May. Skirtin, the fall in demand has already affected prices – in May, they fell by 15-20% at the beginning of the year.
In May of this year, the use of glass sheets in Russia decreased mainly due to the decrease in construction volumes.
Therefore, the decrease in developer activity is associated with a high key rate prevailing in recent months. At the end of February, the Central Bank of Russia raised the key interest rate from 9.5% to 20%.
Due to the high rate and increase in the cost of bank financing, developers have frozen new projects. In addition, RBC concludes that housing demand fell in April.
