FAS files four new anti-monopoly cases over rising egg prices

The Russian Federal Anti-Monopoly Service (FAS) opened four new cases regarding the increase in prices of chicken eggs on the basis of a cartel agreement. This was stated in the press service sections.

“A simultaneous increase in chicken egg prices has emerged,” the publication says.

So, signs of an artificial monopoly were noticed in the following organizations: “Gorodishchenskaya Poultry Farm”, “Volzhskaya Poultry Farm”, “Agrofirm “Vostok” and “Stepnoe”. All but the last one are registered and operate in the Volgograd region. According to the service, in December this year, companies increased the weighted average wholesale prices of eggs from 45 percent to 100 percent of October prices. If the suspicions are confirmed, they will be subject to large turnover penalties.

FAS said, “A lawsuit has been initiated against the producers on the grounds that a cartel agreement was made.”
