Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree allowing Rosbank to purchase shares of VTB, Rosneft, Gazprom, Norilsk Nickel and other Russian companies from French financial holding Societe Generale. The document was published on the official site portal legal information.

In accordance with the presidential decree on the use of special measures in connection with hostile actions of some foreign states and international organizations, the order “On a special decision on the conduct of transactions by the public joint-stock company Rosbank” was signed.

Societe Generale ceased its operations in Russia in 2023. In mid-April 2022, it became the first of the major European financial groups to announce its withdrawal from the Russian market due to international sanctions against Moscow. SG’s stake in Rosbank later went to the local company Interros, owned by businessman Vladimir Potanin.
