In 2023, almost half of Russians (46%) were expanding the space of their private homes, adding ground floors, attics, verandas and other extensions. Such data is provided by a study on the online hypermarket “VseInstrumenty.ru”, conducted jointly with research agency A2: A copy is available on socialbites.ca.

About 8 thousand participants took part in the survey, which covered all regions of the Russian Federation. According to the results, 18% of Russians spent between 100 and 500 thousand rubles on construction work. Another 16% – from 500 thousand to 1 million, and every tenth spent more than 15 million rubles.

The majority (21%) completed construction in 6-9 months. One in five took 3 to 6 months, with 19% working for more than a year. When choosing construction materials, Russians primarily trust the reviews of their friends and acquaintances (17%).

Additionally, respondents paid attention to the price and brand of goods (14% each), recommendations on the Internet (13%) and recommendations from builders (10%). The least important aspect when purchasing was the design and appearance of the materials.

In addition to new buildings, 28% of survey respondents have also updated the interior of their homes in the last 3-5 years. Another 27% did so 1-3 years ago and 21% in 2023. The main motivation for changing decor was fatigue from old decor (25%).

21% of Russians spent up to 50 thousand rubles on the purchase of furniture and other interior items. Another 16% – from 100 to 200 thousand rubles. Most importantly, bedrooms and living rooms (27%), corridors (20%) and kitchens (18%) were renovated.

When choosing household goods, priority was given to price (21%), brand (17%), country of origin (16%) and online reviews (14%). Designers’ projects were considered by only 12% of Russians surveyed.
