EU freezes assets of Russia and Belarus worth 28 billion Euros

EU member states have already frozen the private assets of Russian and Belarusian oligarchs and companies worth approximately €28 billion. This was reported by RIA News Source at European Commission.

Brussels plans to use this money towards Ukraine. The European Commission noted that the EU remains united in supporting Kiev.

The EU does not yet have a legal framework for the seizure of private property of Russian and Belarusian businessmen. The EU Charter of Fundamental Rights does not permit the seizure of private property except where it is in the broad public interest. But even in this case, the owner must receive fair and timely compensation.
