The construction of the Rasht-Astara railway corridor between Iran and Azerbaijan will start within a month and a half. The agency reports that Mehr Regarding Shahriar Efendizadeh, Deputy Director of Iran’s Ministry of Roads and Urbanization.
“According to the agreement reached, we hope to start implementing this project in about a month and a half, starting from the beginning of 2024,” the official said.
Efendizadeh noted that the 162 km-long Rasht-Astara section is currently the most important railway project in Iran.
The road is part of the Astara-Rasht-Qazvin transport corridor, which should connect the railways of Iran, Azerbaijan and Russia. This corridor is also part of an international project North South, It was designed to integrate the highways of Russia, Iran, Azerbaijan and India. In May 2023, Moscow and Tehran signed documents on the completion of the last section of the West Rasht-Astara railway in Iran.
