Russia increased its foreign debt to only one country in 2022

Russia has only increased its foreign debt to India in 2022. This was reported by RIA News According to World Bank data.

It is stated that last year Russia had only three independent creditors: India, France and South Korea. The largest debt belonged to India with $777 million. Moreover, for the first time, this country gave a loan of $190 million to Russia at the end of 2020.

At the same time, Russia’s debt to South Korea decreased by 24 percent to 209.8 million dollars, and its debt to France decreased by 1.8 times to 177.8 million dollars.

About 21 percent of Russia’s foreign debt is held by bondholders. In 2022, this share decreased by 32 percent to 67.9 billion dollars. The majority of debt obligations (82 percent) are in the hands of large corporate creditors who have no connection with states. Last year, this debt decreased by 17% to $307 billion.

Russia’s foreign debt in 2022 decreased by 20% in total, reaching 376.1 billion dollars. The last time such high rates of decline were recorded was in 2000, when it stood at 18.5%.
