Between November 1 and December 10, 2023, the number of purchases of natural black sturgeon caviar by Russians decreased by 5% compared to the same period last year. Such data was provided to socialbites.ca by experts from the analytical resource Check Index (owned by the OFD Platform company).

“Judging by the names of goods on the receipts, the most commonly purchased black caviar includes sturgeon caviar, sterlet, star sturgeon and beluga (all belong to the sturgeon family). In comparison, imitation black caviar is usually purchased in volumes of 100-200 grams. It usually contains a base of seaweed, fish oil and gelatin, the source’s press service noted.

The study was conducted based on analysis of 55-57 million cash register receipts obtained from more than 1.1 million online cash registers in Russia. The period considered was from November 1 to December 10, 2023 and 2022.
