Australian Foreign Affairs Minister Marise Payne imposed sanctions on billionaire Deripaska in March 2022. He is prohibited from entering Australia or receiving any share of Queensland Alumina’s profits.

The businessman’s lawyer, former Australian Attorney General Christian Porter, emphasized that Deripaska’s position as director of enterprises in the Russian mining and energy complex is not a legal basis for imposing sanctions to protect Australia’s national interests. Porter said Payne’s justification for imposing sanctions was inadequate.

Before that Deripaska named Sanctions with outdated weapons of the 19th century.

Previously Australia introduced Sanctions were imposed on 13 Russians because of Kara-Murza.
