Before the New Year holidays, there will be an increase in financial scams in Russia; scammers will use existing schemes to deceive Russians and amplify them. Warned about this in an interview with socialbites.ca, leading expert of the Digital Risk Protection department of the FACCT company Evgeny Egorov.
“First of all, phishing resources will emerge for selling tickets to New Year’s events, purchasing tickets for theatre, cinema, stand-up shows and hotel reservations within the scope of a fake date plan. The second is a huge scam with discounts, giveaways, and gift cards. Third, the Fake Boss scheme has been popular since September this year. Egorov noted that the victim received a message from the administrator’s fake account that he needed to talk to the “curator” on the phone, as a result of which the fraudsters persuaded him to withdraw money to a secure account.
In any case, the scammers’ goal is to gain access to Russians’ banking data or to persuade the victim to independently transfer money to the scammers’ account.
The expert added that fraud schemes will become increasingly automated and widespread, while fraudsters will try to quickly replace non-working “baits” with new ones.
